SkyFuel and Termoindustriale Agree to Parabolic Trough Distribution in Italy

Arvada, Colorado – May 19, 2011: Parabolic trough maker SkyFuel has reached an agreement with Italian power Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) firm Termoindustriale for distribution of the SkyTrough in Italy. The agreement covers systems up to about 50 Megawatts (thermal). SkyFuel will provide the solar collectors and technical advisement, and Termoindustriale will provide turnkey energy systems to their customers. Termoindustriale will focus on smaller CSP systems using Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) or Traditional Rankine Cycle with steam turbines for electricity generation.

The construction of solar thermodynamic plants is supported in Italy through a feed-in premium for 25 years, administered by Gestore dei Servizi Energetici, S.p.A. (GSE) – a private company owned by the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance.

Termoindustriale, with its focus on production of renewable energy, has shown strong growth in the wake of carbon reduction targets adopted in the European Union, and a goal in Italy to reduce energy imports and dependency on oil and gas. Termoindustriale is the exclusive partner in Italy and Romania of MAN Diesel low and medium-speed diesel engines for biofuel solutions. In addition to the turnkey provision of power stations, Termoindustriale handles authorization procedures; financing; negotiation of Green Certificates; operation and maintenance; remote monitoring and control; and direct sourcing of fuel oils.

“SkyFuel’s parabolic trough fits perfectly into the design of cogeneration plants that make up a growing part of our business,” commented Termoindusriale’s General Executive Manager, Walter Brovia.

For their part, SkyFuel is pleased to have a strong commercial partner in Italy. “Termoindustriale knows the market, the technology, and the culture,” said SkyFuel’s Vice President of Product Management Andrew McMahan, “we have the highest confidence in their ability to provide turnkey power solutions using the SkyTrough."
